Information about Granite Carpet Pythons
The simple recessive Granite mutation randomly occurred in Irian Jaya Carpet Pythona, Morelia spilota harrisoni, in a private collection in the Netherlands. The regular IJ pattern is no longer visible but broken into reams of individually pigmented scales that reminds of granite rocks. Especially when recombined with other morphs, Granites are very popular amongst Carpet Python enthusiasts. Granite Jaguars, just to mention one example, show a surprisingly large reduction of the dark pigmentation and have a solid yellow basic colour, broken by black or brown spots.

The axanthic, „black and white“, version of Granite Carpet Pythons is probably the most popular morph out there and can be found on the second picture from the left. The first photos shows the same mutation but with the Jaguar trait on top of it. The third one is a very rare combination of these different mutations, a Caramel Axanthic Granite Jaguar. Since both the Granite and the Axanthic traits are recessive, the odds to hit one in a 16 egg clutch are not very high.
